Don’t lose your voice

With two important votes affecting the future of the club on the horizon, we ask Trust members to keep us up to date with their contact details.

Dons Trust members will in the next few months be asked to vote on two crucial resolutions that will determine the future of the club. As part of the club’s proposed return to Wimbledon, Trust members must vote twice in order to give permission to sell The Cherry Red Records Stadium, which is a crucial step in raising the finance to fund a new ground.

But it’s not just a simple majority that will determine the votes. Because these votes concern what are classified as “restricted actions”, a higher-than-normal percentage of members must vote in favour, and the turnouts must also be above a certain threshold. The precise details of the votes will be communicated nearer the time, and a group of Trust volunteers is currently working on a strategy to make sure that the importance of the votes and their technicalities are fully explained.

It is vital that every Trust member votes when the time comes, so we need to make sure that the voting papers actually reach you! It’s therefore crucial that your contact details on the Trust’s database are up to date. Have you moved house but not got round to letting us know your new postal address? Have you changed email address but not yet dropped us a line to let us know what the new one is? Or have you changed your telephone number but not told us the new one?

If you didn’t receive any voting papers ahead of the 2014 Dons Trust Board election, which was held from November to December – either by post or by email, according to your stated preference – then it would also be worthwhile getting in contact to let us know your current contact details. If you are in any doubt about whether or not we have your current postal address, email address and phone number, please do send them through to us again:

  • send them by post to The Dons Trust, The Cherry Red Records Stadium, Jack Goodchild Way, 422a Kingston Road, Kingston-upon-Thames, Surrey KT1 3PB
  • email them to details@thedonstrust.org
  • or visit the Dons Trust stall by the entrance gate to The Cherry Red Records Stadium’s car park on a matchday.

Our volunteers will also be able to help if you’re uncertain of your current Trust membership status – we know from experience that some supporters let their membership lapse without meaning to. Membership renewal reminders should be with Trust members by the end of July, linking to the new universal 1 August renewal date. The Dons Trust Board is considering a cut-off point for membership as we approach the restricted actions votes – more details of that will be outlined in the renewal form.

Don’t lose your voice – make sure you can have your say and help bring the Dons home.
