Matt Spriegel steps down from board

Matt Spriegel has stepped down from his voluntary role on the Dons Trust Board due to growing commitments to Wimbledon Cricket Club and Surrey County Cricket Club.

A former first-class cricketer with Surrey and a Dons fan since childhood, Matt was co-opted onto the Dons Trust Board in August 2016 with a remit to help the Trust engage with younger fans aged 16–35.

But since then his involvement with both Wimbledon CC and Surrey CCC has increased and he has found it difficult to find time for his Dons Trust position.

Matt said: ‘I’m really disappointed that I can’t find time to carry on with the role, but with cricket taking up much more of my time I felt it was better to give someone else the chance to take things forward.

‘Whenever cricket fixtures allow I’ll still be at Kingsmeadow, and of course at the new stadium when that’s open, to cheer on the Dons.’

Dons Trust Board chair Matthew Breach commented: ‘We’re sad to see Matt go but fully understand that he wants to focus on his cricket coaching. On behalf of the board, I’d like to thank him for the work that he’s done during his time with us.

‘As a board, we’re going to have a think about how we fill Matt’s shoes as engaging with younger fans is an area where we’re still keen to see improvement. We’ll follow up on this in due course.’
