Today is Transgender Day of Visibility, an annual event to celebrate transgender people, the courage it takes to live openly and authentically, while raising awareness of the discrimination transgender people continue to face today.  Transgender, or trans, is an umbrella-term used to describe those who gender identity is different from the sex recorded at birth.
