Our elected board is looking for two additional members to help us with our work immediately. We are looking for enthusiastic, experienced members to bring additional expertise and capacity. The knowledge, skills and experience we need most are:
- Corporate finance and/or strategy: We would like someone who has previously worked in the assessment of capital requirements and analysis of detailed budgets and has experience of advising leadership on strategic financial opportunities.
- Equality, diversity and inclusion: We want to find someone with expertise in EDI and particularly with how to recruit from diverse backgrounds into leadership and board positions in the Trust itself, the wider AFC Wimbledon family, and how to increase the diversity of our membership.
We wish to fill these needs through what are known as casual vacancies until the 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM) in December. Casual vacancies arise after the number of elected Directors drops below the number elected at the preceding AGM. According to our rules, those appointed as casual vacancies may stand for the upcoming election, and if elected could continue to serve after December 2025.
So, if you were considering standing in the upcoming elections and have the relevant experience, this might be a good opportunity to get involved now. You could also just serve this period and there is no commitment to stand for election beyond this period.
What do we do?
The board runs the Trust on behalf of our members, for the benefit of our communities
We:
- set the culture, mission and strategic direction of AFC Wimbledon
- appoint the directors of AFC Wimbledon and participate in the Club board as well as review its minutes
- manage our membership organisation of around 7,000 members
- liaise with our communities and with other groups and organisations
By doing these things to help govern our Club on behalf of our members we help our Club win games of football.
The board meet on the second Wednesday evening of each month at the Club in the boardroom with meetings typically lasting four hours.
All board members take part in at least one of our working groups which meet online, usually monthly and report back to the board:
- Culture & mission and Oversight
- Communications
- Constitution
Board members are expected to attend members’ meetings in the evenings at least three times a year plus our AGM in December and play a part in other activities including other meetings in person and online and on a rota basis at matches as well as undertaking board training. We estimate the minimum time commitment to average around eight hours per week.
What if I don’t have everything you’re looking for?
We don’t expect to find everything we are looking for in a single person. So, if you believe you would add value to our board but don’t tick all the boxes, we would still love to hear from you. Please get in touch to express your interest and explain the value you would bring to our board.
We will recruit with an eye to board diversity. We particularly welcome interest from well-qualified members of groups currently poorly represented on the board.
If you think you might be interested and could be suitable, and would like to discuss this further, please email chair@thedonstrust.org before 23:59 on Wednesday 23rd July 2025. Please include a short (around 250 words) description of your relevant skills and experience and what you think you could bring to our board, along with a CV or LinkedIn profile. Expressions of interest will be considered by a panel of board members, and we will respond to each one, selecting the most relevant to meet the panel before the board decides whether to make any offers.
To be appointable to the Dons Trust board, a person must at the time of appointment and while in the post be a member of the Dons Trust and must not be subject to a Disqualifying Condition under the terms of the EFL’s Owners’ and Directors’ Test. https://www.efl.com/governance/regulations/#heading-appendix-3-owners-and-directors-test
(NB The rules are in Appendix 3 of the Regulations at this link).
The Test requires completing a self-declaration, which must be countersigned by the Club, and the EFL will then carry out background checks to verify the accuracy of that declaration.
