Dons Discord to close on 31 May 2026

We will be closing our Discord server on 31 May 2026. Despite substantial effort, including a committed moderation team, the benefits are not proportionate to the volunteer time required.

With over 7,500 people in our membership but fewer than 25 regularly active participants on the server, it is clear the platform has not been widely adopted and does not serve the wider membership.

The overheads of moderating user-generated content and meeting evolving UK digital safety compliance requirements, make maintaining an official two-way channel of this kind increasingly difficult.

This is not a new challenge. Discord followed our earlier experience with Proboards and Webjam, which faced similar issues with adoption. Our newsletters and recent campaigns have shown that email remains by far the most effective and preferred method of communication for our members.

Accordingly, the board has unanimously agreed to focus on channels that are more sustainable and accessible.

Members have always been able to engage with us in person at every game via the kiosk and after matches in the 1889 lounge.

In addition, following the success of the recent drop-in meeting, we plan to hold these sessions at least every two months, at the stadium, at other locations around Wimbledon, and online.

Members can contact us and ask questions via the club website, email any board member directly, receive our monthly newsletter, attend general meetings, join our WhatsApp community, and engage with our social media updates.

We believe this provides a more effective and inclusive way to stay connected and would like to thank all members and volunteers who participated in Discord and its predecessors.
