Planning application goes in

The Dons Trust, owner of AFC Wimbledon, is delighted that the planning application for a new stadium has today been officially submitted to Merton Council.

The plans will revitalise the Plough Lane part of the borough, providing housing, retail and leisure space alongside the stadium, and will help the council fulfil its plans for sporting intensification on the site.

Dons Trust Vice-Chair David Growns said, ‘This is the latest and one of the most poignant milestones in the history of this great football club.

‘We were founded on two over-riding principles: to be fan owned and to have a home in the area that bears our name.

‘This submission signifies the latest step in our journey back to our spiritual home in Wimbledon.

‘The Dons Trust Board would like to extend our sincere thanks to AFC Wimbledon Chief Executive Erik Samuelson, the rest of the Football Club Board and our advisers for the tremendous effort they have made in getting us to this latest stage.’

Council officers will spend the next few weeks validating the application and it will then be made public.
