Support for LOFT

The Dons Trust Board has expressed its support for fans of Leyton Orient as they battle to ensure the survival of their club.

The East London club are currently bottom of the Football League and struggling with debts. A recent High Court winding-up hearing gave them until mid-June to pay off debts.

On their website, Leyton Orient Fans’ Trust (LOFT) recently wrote: “While the best solution to Leyton Orient’s situation is for [current club owner Francesco] Becchetti to sell the club as a going concern, LOFT’s remit as a supporters’ trust means that we have to plan for the worst.”

LOFT have launched a ‘regeneration fund’ that aims to raise enough money to help regenerate Leyton Orient or, in the event of liquidation, a successor ‘phoenix club’. The fund raised over £100,000 in just 10 days when it was launched recently.

Dons Trust Board member Tim Hillyer, who has attended a number of recent LOFT meetings, said: “Wimbledon fans know from our dark days of 2002 what it’s like to face a club owner making decisions that put the future of a club at risk.

“The Dons Trust Board expresses its support to LOFT and all Leyton Orient fans as they battle to secure the future of their club.”
