Plough Lane street signNew stadium update – 22 March 2019

Last night Merton Council’s planning committee voted in favour of a ‘resolution to approve’ our request for some amendments to our original planning application. A significant amount of work had gone into preparing the documents that were submitted to the council in support of our request, so we are pleased that the planning committee has agreed with the case for approving them.

The amendments won’t be officially approved until a deed of variation is signed, documenting the necessary changes to the existing commitments between the various parties involved, and Merton Council have formally announced that permission is granted.

Away from planning issues, as we get closer to starting stadium construction we are firming up the project’s financing. As stated previously, the stadium is being financed by the sale of the Cherry Red Records Stadium to Chelsea FC, a contribution from housing developer Galliard (now a partner in Merton Catalyst LLP), a bank loan, and a crowdfunding share issue.

Supporters at tomorrow’s home match against Gillingham will be able to read a crowdfunding update on chief executive Erik Samuelson’s programme page. The article will also be posted on the club’s website later on over the weekend.

Finally for this update, we intend to keep you informed about progress with the stadium on a regular basis but there may not be an update from us every week – so please don’t be alarmed if one week an update doesn’t appear!
