Youth Alliance League Cup winnersYoung Dons make history

On behalf of its members, the Dons Trust Board would like to pass on its congratulations to the AFC Wimbledon under-18s players, staff and management following their EFL Youth Cup Alliance win yesterday.

The young Dons side picked up the trophy following a 1-0 victory over Rotherham U18s, with Matt Cox scoring the winner at the New York stadium in a game that was streamed live on YouTube and watched by more than 3,000 fans.

En route to the final, Rob Tuvey’s side has beaten the likes of Portsmouth, Northampton, Southend, Oxford. and Cambridge.

In winning the trophy, the U18s became the first Dons side to pick up silverware since our return to Plough Lane earlier this month.

Jane Lonsdale, vice-chair of the Dons Trust Board, said:

“What a fantastic achievement by the Under 18s in winning the EFL Youth Alliance Cup. The Dons Trust are incredibly proud of what they have achieved. Personally, I have really missed not being able to go and watch the U18s games this season – they are always incredibly entertaining and I would encourage everyone, when we are allowed back, to go and watch them. Hopefully it won’t be too long before we can celebrate their fantastic win with them. Well done boys.”
