Dons Trust Election 2024

Dons Trust Board Election

AFC Wimbledon is a rare commodity – a league football club owned by its supporters.  We are very proud of this and determined to maintain it.  Many people give time as volunteers to help the Club in practical ways alongside paid staff.  But it’s also essential that supporters are able to exercise oversight of the way the Club is run  –  its priorities, policies, finances and so on.  This work is done on your behalf by the Dons Trust board  (DTB) – people elected by the whole membership to act on their behalf in this important work.

Elections to fill vacancies on the DTB take place each November. This letter is both to tell you that the election process is starting and to invite you to stand for election or to encourage others put their names forward.  Copies of the Nomination Form and the Election Rules are attached.

This year there are seven vacancies to fill – four for current board members reaching the end of their elected term, one to replace the casual vacancy that was appointed following a board member resigning (Michelle Little, who is moving to a role within the Club) and two to fill vacancies which result from a shortfall of candidates at last year’s election.

This will mean the election this year of members for a mixture of one, two and three years which will set up the board to reach its goal of having an annual turnover of about a third of its members. At this election successful candidates will be appointed according to the votes they receive  –  the top four will serve for three years, with terms then allocated  in order down to one year.

The nomination period is now open and lasts until Wednesday 30th October.

Please consider whether you might be a good person to be on the board or if you know someone who you might encourage to stand for election.  The board plays a key part in  continuing success  of our fan ownership and as a board member you are not only at the heart of decision making for the Trust but playing a key role on behalf of the whole membership.

There is information on the Dons Trust website (https://thedonstrust.org) about the board and how it operates.  This letter comes from the Trusts Election Steering Group.  Contact us on elections@thdonstrust.org if you have any questions.  If you would like to speak to a current board member about the role, we can put you in touch.

Under the Trust rules you need to be a paid up member of the Trust on the date a nomination form is submitted whether you are a candidate or nominator/seconder.  To check your membership status or for any other membership query contact membership@thedonstrus.org.
