Fighting for promotion on all fronts, fan-owned and community focussed. Our 2024 Strategy

The boards of the Dons Trust and AFCW PLC are pleased to share with members and supporters the updated 2024 AFC Wimbledon strategy. (PDF)

In 2021 in consultation with members The Dons Trust agreed a new strategy and goals for the club, this document builds on, and updates that based on the current financial and competitive context.

We have a bold vision, that is for the long-term. It’s an aim not unlike getting back to league or returning to Plough Lane. It would involve beating the odds but it is not impossible, but what it does do is provide everyone with an aim and outline the steps to get there.

To fight for promotion to the Men’s and Women’s Championship as a sustainable, fan-owned, community football club.

You can read the summary here (PDF) and look out for opportunities soon to discuss the strategy with representatives from the boards, including at an online session Wednesday evening at a Meet the DTB.

Created in partnership between the boards and senior club team with the help of consultants Q5 (who are led by fellow fan and Trust member Olly Purnell) who did all their work free of charge.

The process of updating the strategy started in late 2023 with a pro-bono review of the Club by the experts from Q5. One of the central recommendations, and something that many members have requested too, was a new north star vision for the club.

The vision was discussed at a joint boards meeting in January 2024 and work was commissioned to produce a detailed strategy report that could get us there over time.

Since then the report has been produced and amended with input from senior club staff (football and non-football side), the AFCW PLC board, the Dons Trust board and representatives from the groups around the club.

The strategy isn’t a strategy for the Trust, or the charities (that was agreed to be out of scope) but of course they are essential to the delivery of many of the aspects.

It lays out a bold ambition for all of our Club, the pace and scale of which will be dependent on many factors. What it gives us is the ultimate destination and the way-points to get there, the journey is up to us to do together.
